May also apply to other versions of windows.
Delete everything in C:\WINDOWS\TEMP (Go to DOS, DEL C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\*.*)
Make sure 200 megs is free on drive C
Run Virus Check
Go into Netscape, clear Disk Cache; for IE, Internet Options, and Delete Temporary Internet files
Make sure hardware fans are spinning: Power supply, and CPU
Remove resident programs from Program StartUp (Office Bar, AOL IM, Real Player)
Run Scandisk
Run Regcleaner, download from Microsoft.com
Set Wallpaper background to None
Uninstall and Re-Install afflicated program
Uninstall Unused Programs from Control Panel
Run Defrag
Check for conflicting devices in the device manager
Open computer: unplug and replug cables and interface cards
Last resort: Reformat Hard disk and start from scratch
Still bad? Must be Hardware: swap memory chips, CPU chip, or hard disk
